Armstrong Trophy

The next team for the game against Cumbria is here

The ARMSTRONG team had a great win over DURHAM at STOCKTON on Saturday.89 – 58 Shots winning 12 – 2 Pts.

We almost had FULL POINTS WIN. Charlie Gibbs rink lost by One shot on last end after a great fight back (The Jaffa Cakes almost worked )from18 -9 down at 16 Ends to go to in to last end 18 across. G.Wilkie ( lead ) had his first bowl laying touching the Jack, but  Durham dislodged it enough to give them the one shot win.

Dave .Wilson’s continued his winning run, winning by 3 shots; Dave Letten’s rink won by 13 shots; Neil Macfarlane’s rink won by 16 shots.

AGAIN WELL DONE ALL THE PLAYERS YOU DID YOUR COUNTY PROUD

We now go on to APPLEBY to face CUMBRIA on SATURDAY 26th July at 12 noon and any support would be really grateful. Why don,t you have a trip to the lovely market town and enjoy a good game of Bowls. Only advice is leave early as it is 1st day of the holiday season to the NORTH and M6 will be busy.

Photographs

Over this current season a lot of photographs have been taken by various people, including Dave Burbidge, BFGBC, (Dave's are excellent in content and quality), but it is difficult to show all on the website.  I have created a 'flickr' account which can be accessed by sending me an email, admin@bowlslancashire.org  requesting access.  You will then receive an email back which gives you the link to the 'Roving Reporters' account. (You can then save it in your favourites). The files are not public and can only be accessed through me and by people who are bona-fide members of Bowls Lancashire.  If you have any further pictures of Bowls Lancashire events then you can send them to me and I will upload them.

Update on Team 5

The County Competition Committee have calculated that the event, held on 2 greens at Southport, will be able to cater for a maximum of 18 teams.  Remember this is a competition open to singer gender/mixed teams and entry is through your Club.

At the present time it is believed that the ratio of teams per club will be

Blackpool  1 Team

Bolton 5 Teams

Heaton Hall 4 Teams

MCBC 1 Team

Southport 5 Teams.

This makes a total of 16 teams which means there are 2 spare team places which will be decided on when the number of teams wishing to enter is known.

The format for the day will be 3 groups of 6 teams, each team playing 5 games in the group.  The 3 Group winners and the best runner-up will progress through to the semi-finals/final.  There will be 8 sessions for the group games and the number of ends is yet to be decided.  Teams are not restricted in number but must have a minimum of 5 players.  The teams will play as a pair and a triple.  No player may play as 'Skip' on more than 2 occasions.

The event is being held on the 31st August and due to Bowls Lancashire's commitment to the Men's Northern Counties Competition the possible competitors from Bolton/MCBC/Southport will not be known until the conclusion of the Men's Finals Day.   The closing date for entries is therefore Saturday 23rd August.

Bowls Lancashire supports the Breast Cancer Campaign

  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer and accounts for nearly one in three of all cancers in women

  • One woman in nine will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime

  • Breast cancer is the second biggest cause of death from cancer in women

When you read headlines like those above it means that 'all' the bowlers in Lancashire, both men and women, will know someone who has been, is, or will be affected by this particular form of Cancer.  At the last executive meeting, your elected committee decided to allow the use of the 'Team 5' event as a fundraiser for this charity.  This will in no way alter the format for this competition.  All that will change is that hopefully all the the Clubs of Bowls Lancashire will enter as many teams as possible in order that the greatest number of people will be there on the day.

The event is to be held at Southport BC on Sunday 31st August 2008.  This is the same weekend as the 'Men's Northern Counties' but I feel sure that those who are playing there will want to purchase a 'pink ribbon' as a donation to this worthy cause....or 'Viv will hunt you down'

Further information will appear here shortly and when the total number of teams entered is known, a draw will be posted.
