Stella Logan v Cumbria

The euphoria of the tremendous start the ladies had to their Stella campaign was snuffed out today in glorious sunshine at Southport.

The Cumbrian ladies adapted far better to the pace and the tricky lines on Southport’s green and the ladies suffered their first defeat of this season with Cumbria victorious on 5 of the 6 rinks - (albeit by only a few shots on each). The great performance by Maureen Adamson’s rink winning 26 shots to 8 was not enough for Lancashire to rescue the aggregate points and the game was lost by 16 shots.

Next up is the return game at Wigton on 24th June where hopefully the ladies can fare better!

20th May 2011.

Northumberland were the opponents for the second week running. The Lancashire ladies were, despite the weather, in high spirits after their first win (even though it was only by a couple of shots) and had the added advantage of the home tie.

At five ends, five of the six rinks were ahead and the sixth rink skipped by E.Benvie was only one shot behind. After ten ends, Eleanor’s rink had turned their score round to lead 16-8 and it was the turn of Kitty Mulholland’s rink and Maureen Adamson’s rink to find themselves down on shots. Meanwhile on the other rinks, the ladies had pushed their home advantage and overall the game was with Lancashire by a 32 shot difference.

With the rain on and off, the pace of Bolton’s playing surface changed during the course of the second half of the game and Lancashire proved much quicker to adapt to the changes than their opponents. After 18 ends Lancashire were still winning four rinks and had a massive shot difference of plus 50!

Even with the shot difference and it appeared the aggregate points in the bag, everyone was all aware how important each precious point is in this league and each wanted their rink to win. There was a nail biter of an encounter taking place on rink 1, Babs Hornby’s rink had been way ahead, pegged back, gone behind, caught up, and went into the last end all square – with the aid of a little push, the Lancashire bowl turned over once and made shot and Bab’s rink won! On Rink 2, Alice Howling’s four produced a magnificent performance (maybe something to do with all the practice in the ‘Frostbite’, Cath and Pauline?????) and won by 8, Eleanor’s rink steadily had continued to amass shots and ran out 27-16 winners. Kitty’s four (on the infamous rink 6) held on and lost by just 5 shots, and Maureen Adamson’s rink also held on to their lead and won 24-21.

And the other rink? Well here is the rundown of their scores -

5 ends – 7 shots to 1 up

10 ends – 15 shots to 5 up

15 ends – 22 shots to 6 up

18 ends – 35 (yes I did say 35!) shots to 6

21 ends – 37 shots to 8 winners!!!

A magnificent performance by  – Eileen Brown, Irene Everett, Sue Hodgkinson and skip Linda Murray – my congratulations to them – and to everyone else for a brilliant team effort – 10 precious points and a plus 47 shot difference to finish!

Next game – Cumbria at Southport on 3rd June.

13th May 2011

The start of this season has seen some of the more regular players of the Stella Logan Team unavailable for selection and some players have been asked to play in positions which are not their usual places.  This has not dented the spirit that exists in the team and when they played their first match against Northumberland on 13th May they took the majority of the spoils with 3winning rinks and claiming the aggregate by a mere 2 shots.  The same number of shots they lost to in the corresponding tie 12 months ago.  Good start ladies!!

13th March 2011

Owing to the difficulty in sourcing the County red blazers at a reasonable cost a decision was made at the recent County Executive meeting.

Extract from the Minutes -

'The Executive resolved that the ladies County team would be afforded the option to wear their blazers or their County jackets (not fleeces) when travelling and arriving at venues, owing to the difficulty in sourcing a new supplier at a reasonable cost. This option would be in place for the 2011 season and would be reviewed prior to 2012 with a view to dispensing with the wearing of blazers altogether. Each team member would however be required to wear a county jacket for travelling and arrival at venues once blazers were dispensed with.'

The President/Vice President would however be required to have a blazer in order for them to wear at the pre/after match formalities.

Therefore after this season blazers will no longer form part of our County Uniform and you will be required to have a County Jacket if you have not already got one.

Wearing of Fleeces for arriving at venues will not be acceptable.  For 2011 it is either Blazers or County Jackets.

If you require a jacket you must contact Lynne Hemsley  who is now dealing with all requests re County uniform.
