Your County Executive has made a decision to make this years Team 5 event an 'Open Event' for Clubs of the County. What this means is that Clubs will be able to enter teams of men or ladies or cominations of both. The event is being played at Southport BC this year on 31st August. Should be a good climax to the season !!!!!. ------------------------------- Don't forget if there is anything that you want included on this page, this website or you just want to comment on just drop a quick email to

Bowls Lancashire Ladies v Men The first Bowls Lancashire Ladies v Men County Game was played at Bolton Flat Green Bowling Cub on Saturday 3rd May 2008. There were seven rinks available for each team, with the ladies Team Manager having an opportunity to put out ladies who would be available to play for the opening 'Stella Logan' match in a weeks time. The result of the match, although it was won by the men, was not the issue it was the ability of both men and ladies to get some further practise at Boltons' Synthetic Green, a green that if you 'misjudge' will make you out to be a beginner. The weather remained bright although there were a few spots of rain to be felt around the 13 end stage at a time when some were following guidelines and topping up their 'sugar' contents with Jaffa Cakes and the like, others chose something of a 'liquid variety'. The game was played in the best of humour with 'Big D' managing to be heard in Bolton town centre with his shouts of 'Tiger Lil' being heard when the unfortunate Mrs Watts was stood on the mat waiting to deliver her wood. All in all it was a good Ladies/Men opener and Neil Taylors opening event as the County President who was sporting the newly commissioned 'Bowls Lancashire Jewel' hanging from the pristine County chain. -------------------------------------------- Global Warming Hits Lancashire. Well that is what it felt like at Manchester when the Mens Super Nines was held on Sunday 4th May. This year there were eight teams taking part, split into 2 groups with the winners of each group taking part in a final. Rain threatened right from the start and the 'going' was 'good to soft' with Southport 'A' making an impressive start taking two of the three games from Bolton (GT), they even took the aggregate. Bolton (SH) made a similar start and took all the points in the game from Heaton Hall (B), equally the Commonwealth took all the points from Southport (B). Bolton (JB) played Heaton Hall (A) and took 8 points. Everything looked good for the rest of the day...that was apart from the Weather. The 2nd group games were under way when the heavens opened and the 'monsoon rains' started falling in torrents onto the green. The Green Steward became 'twitchy'. It had to be accepted that this was the first time that the greens at Manchester had been used this season and he did not want them ruining for the rest of the season and after 4 or 5 ends the games were suspended. After an hours delay the games were abandoned, probably the wisest decision that could have been made. Should the 'holders' retain the 'Cup' for another season?, that and whether the game can be re-scheduled for another day towards the end of the season is a matter for the executive.....watch this space.
